Most people pick a barbershop off Google and Instagram. They check your reviews, your recent cuts, and whether they can book in two taps. If any of that is missing, they scroll to the next shop.
The parts of the playbook that are specific to your trade, not every local business.
Barbershops run on waves: back-to-school in August, the holiday weeks from Thanksgiving through New Year's Eve, and prom and graduation season in late spring. Those weeks fill themselves. The move is to use them to protect the slow stretch: January and February are the quietest months in most shops, so the rush is when you push regulars onto standing appointments and collect the reviews that carry you through winter. Post your open slots during rush weeks, because that is when new faces are looking, and a new face who has a great first cut in December becomes the standing appointment that pays your January rent.
A five-star rating alone does not move anyone. The review that fills chairs names the barber and the cut: "Marcus took his time on my fade and it was the cleanest I've had." People read that and picture their own haircut. So ask in the chair, right at the mirror moment when they are looking at the finished cut and feeling good, and hand them your Google review link by text or a QR card at the register. One tap, still in the shop. If you have multiple barbers, encourage clients to name who cut them; those name-mentions sell each chair individually.
